When describing this award-winning indoor concrete swimming pool and spa, it would be an understatement to say it is an architecturally challenging creation, when it is in fact pure genius, thanks to the expert construction team including Instyle Concrete Pools.
Before building the pool and spa, Instyle Concrete Pools had to evaluate the surrounding architecture and landscaping. As the house was also under construction at the time, a dedicated project supervisor from Instyle Concrete Pool worked closely with the home builders to coordinate a seamless build. With the clients brief specifying that the pool was to border the home, superseding the depth of the excavation, special attention was given to ensure the structural integrity of the pool. Instyle Concrete Pools together with the architect, Jason Saunders of Arc 7.1 and engineering team, worked to ensure the pool was self-supporting, with additional steel and concrete incorporated into the build.
Visually, every element of the design complements the home’s interior and exterior. At 11.2m long by 3.3m wide the pool has been fully reinforced to support the front wall. Limestone bullnose headers complete the edge of the pool. A plywood-cladded arched ceiling, complete with soft down lights and complementary flooring, gives you the feeling of entering an auditorium as you step down the glamorous concrete staircase into the pool area.
To one side of the pool, a smooth rock feature has been used to break up the timber and concrete theme, adding an extra touch of interest. The spa includes eight powerful spa jets and has been finished with deep blue mosaic borderline tiles. An overflow allows water to spill gently from the spa into the pool below. Adjacent to the spa is a water blade that has been fitted into the wall to add an additional waterfall effect. Tall tinted windows allow natural light to flow into the room and provide a view out from the pool to the coastal sunsets.
“This pool, spa and surrounds are truly quite stunning and a credit to everyone involved in the project” said Greg Garbellini, Sales Manager for Instyle Concrete Pools.
“What makes this project all the more impressive is that both the house and indoor pool were built simultaneously with such outstanding results” said Mr. Garbellini.
Greg’s impressions of this pool and spa are certainly shared within the industry with this project picking up gold in the category of Residential Enclosed/Indoor Pools at the 2009 Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) Awards of Excellence held in July this year.
